National Park Journey
As I stand still trying not to collapse,
I strain to hear the sounds around me.
I walk, half stumbling, towards the rocks ahead.
It feels good to collapse onto the rocks and rest.
Anxiety had crept in, along with a little fear and
I feel tears roll down my cheeks.
There is only one sound I hear,
The quiet scream of frustration and anxiousness.
No-one but me hears this scream though.
Although I have little energy left
Soon I will have to get up and
Will have to walk some more.
Surveying the landscape all I see is
Endless trees, foliage and weeds.
I can do this, just one more step, then another.
I see it, finally there it is, the path.
The path that leads to the car.
My partner rings to make sure I am ok.
Not ok yet, but will be.
I hang up but must keep going...
Must get to the car and rest before driving home.
